About our Rides

The Original Trolley Trail Rides
A no-drop, 3-mile ride from Brookside Park to KC Bier Co along the Trolley Track Trail.
These slow rolls encourage everyone to get on their bikes! We take the pace of the slowest rider (even if they are on a stride bike). The group typically hangs at KC Bier Co for a pretzel or two. Ride back at your leisure (or whenever you have to book it back for nap time).
Trolley Track rides meet at the corner of 56th & Brookside at 10am on the 1st & 3rd Sundays in June, July, Sept, & Oct. We do not ride in August — it’s too darn hot! And we play November by ear.

Grounds to ‘Grounds
1-mile bike rides from a coffeeshop to a playground, with a certified instructor.
These rides are designed to be a safe way for kiddos to gain on-street bike experience.
Parents can grab a coffee while a BikeWalkKC certified instructor leads a kid-centric safety overview. Then the guide will lead all parents and kids together to a nearby playground.
We’re looking for our next routes! Email us to nominate your favorite park or coffeeshop.
Grounds to ‘Grounds rides are in collaboration with BikeWalkKC.
FAQs
What’s the weather policy?
Rides will take place as long as temps are above 40°F and below a “real feel” of 100°F. We make the rain call at 8:30 on the morning of the ride. Cancellations are posted on Instagram.
Are the routes safe?
Very. The Trolley Track Trail is an off-street, crushed gravel trail. At cross-streets we make sure every kid is with at least one adult. We cross 63rd Street, Meyer Blvd and 75th St. as a group.
Grounds to ‘Grounds rides are on quiet neighborhood streets. There will be some slow traffic—but that’s the point. All rides are led by a League Certified Instructor (LCI). Learn more here.
My kid is so slow/reckless/new. What will our experience be?
We get it! When KCFBR started, the founders’ kids were 3 and 4. They sometimes rode stride bikes, and were frequently deciding they are done, or trying to play in traffic, or having feelings about granola bars. This group supports parents and kids wherever you are in this process. Let us know your comfort level and we’ll support it!
What does “no drop” mean?
“No drop” means no one is left behind.
For Grounds to ‘Grounds rides, the group will stay together at all times.
On the Trolley Track rides, this means we won’t leave you high & dry. Kids have lots of variations in pace, and families don’t always want to learn with an audience. A ride leader will always check in with you, and, basically, you can opt in or out of having a buddy. 🙂
Do I need special gear to ride?
Yes and no. You are responsible for making sure your family can get to the meetup spot, and can get safely from the beginning to the end of the ride. On group rides, organizers have one extra bike trailer to help haul small kids or bikes if their li’l legs (or minds) don’t have it in them and you need help for a short distance.
If you are looking for kid gear, we luv local. Check out Midwest Cyclery, Bike Depot, Revolve KC, or a shop near you.
Otherwise, the roads and Trolley Trail are suitable for any bike setup.
You say “all ages.” Do you mean it?
Yes! We’ve had babies and grandparents on the ride. We are a group of parents who have been riding with our kids through many stages of life. This is a supportive environment where parents can learn how to ride with their kids — whether in a trailer, a seat, or on their own bikes, too!
You say “everyone is welcome.” Do you mean that, too?
Yes. A million times yes.
But just to be incredibly clear: this ride practices radical inclusion. Little kids. Big kids. Trans folx. BIPOC, LGBT+, immigrant, neurodivergent, and all of the other buckets that society tries to put us in. Everyone. You.
The only way you aren’t welcome is if you don’t jive with that.
Otherwise, there is no lower or upper age limit. There is no kid quota you must meet. Come as you are. Now… let’s ride bikes!
